1908 Studio Releases:
1908 exists, when at all, almost entirely within the studio structure. This said, the term studio should be used to delineate any time which 1908 spends alone with a recording device, to the exclusion of all or any potential extraneous participants. Within these studio strictures, two forms of material are produced: one type is a vast amount of unadulterated and interminable material, all varied and uncompromising, unpredictable and unwaveringly innovative. This material, housed solely within the vast and inaccessible 1908 Archives, is often either maddeningly repetitive or hysterically randomised, is generally bulky and unwieldly and impossibly voluminous, and represents the bulk brilliance of the 1908 legacy.
That material is not to be found here, or, at present, elsewhere.
What this page is concerned with cataloguing is the entirety and the full extent of 1908's adulterated material: that which has been manipulated and packaged into a comprehendably feable, feasible and easily-digestable form for the general public's consumption. In short: these are the 1908 albums. At present, it includes the first two releases, from 2008, the 41-minute double-EP The Accident and the 81-minute album proper Тунгуска. Before the end of 2009, it will also include the two forthcoming albums, for which all material has been recorded and is at present being collated, compiled, compressed and distilled into further such 1908 'products'. These are the two companion albums, Retreat and Attack. These are all of the releases that 1908 has sanctioned and physically released or plans to on their completion. Like these physical counterparts, the same albums are here provided for entirely free acquisition, from their respective pages. The versions available for download from this site contain precisely the same material as these physical albums and do not vary from them in any way, insignificant or otherwise.
These works represent the whole main part of 1908's bequest to posterity. They are the lifeblood that 1908 has sweated out in order to allow you, the masses, a full glimpse of the future of music, at the things that music has potential to be but has not otherwise yet achieved. They are digestable only as the ever-expanding parts of a whole: one cannot comprehend the significance of one without all the others, and each is intended as one collective experience, to be compounded only with its fellows.
1908 invites you to take these works, all of them. No strings are attached, save that the intention that you listen to them must be carried out. After all, it is only in your best interests that you listen to them, and as immediately as possible.
For our part, we already have.
